Dabble: The Fast Thinking Word Game

Publisher: INI, LLC (2011)

Game Design: George Weiss

Dabble at ChiTag 2012

Players: 2-4 players or teams

Age recommendation: 10+

Dabble Rules:

You get 20 tiles and 5 minutes to make 5 words.

Here is the catch - you can't make just any 5 words. You need to make a 2-letter word, a 3-letter word, a 4-letter word, a 5-letter word, and a 6-letter word.

I kind of had a Bananagrams feel when I first played Dabble, only with less chaos. While there are opponents, your race to finish is against the clock alone. Play does not end after 3 minutes if one player finishes; you still get to use up all of your time to succeed.

I say less chaos, not no chaos.  Those 5 minutes go fast and seeing others stack their pyramid of words can be disheartening. If you are really feeling lost, you can just toss all 20 of your tiles and star over - you just don't get to reset the time.

Using screenshots from the Dabble Facebook app, you can see the gist of the game.

Can you turn this:

into this?

I highly recommend trying out the Facebook app or download the mobile app to give yourself a digital  version of the game to try out, but I definitely prefer the tactile feeling of arranging tiles as opposed to mouse clicking.

If you like word games (we do at the One Zillion Games family), then you can't miss with Dabble.

One Zillion Games was provided with a review copy of Dabble from INI, LLC. The fact that a review copy was provided, in no way influences our opinions of the game.
