Tall Stacker Mighty Monkey Playset

Manufacturer: Patch Products

Ages: 3+

The Tall-Stacker Mighty Monkey Playset is a toy that has a long, but truthfully descriptive title. It really tells you everything you need to know; You play with it, the building pieces stack tall, and there are monkeys (mighty ones even).

There are many things I like about this playset:
  • The pieces are sturdy. With the exception of the treetop playhouse parts, I do not see these pieces as breakable.
  • The playset is expandable. There are multiple other sets available from Patch Products that would create, what I could only imagine as, a Taller-Stacker Mightier Monkey-er Playset.
  • Imagination play. My son designed his own play areas and used the tall stacker pieces as anything from structural support for the treehouse to actual trees to a maze for the cart to cages for the playful monkeys.
  • Not a baby toy. I had my hesitations about the appropriateness for my 7 year old son. Would he be bored? Ends up, not so much. Here is what I think saved that from happening - the slide. I am pretty confident that without a slide and cart to send monkeys flying down, my son would not have enjoyed the toy nearly as much as he did. Not to say he didn't enjoy all the aspects of the playset, but the slide is what drew him in and remained the centerpiece of most of his creations.

What I like most about the below picture is the background. Note the proximity of the Xbox.  Nearly every morning, my son wakes up and asks if he can play a video game.  The morning after setting up the mighty monkeys, he woke up and asked if he could play with the monkey playset.

The main thing that I would change about the design of the playset - the monkey/cart relationship. The cart is clearly there for the monkeys to ride in, but the monkeys don't easily fit.  You can fit one but his hips are too wide to sit flat inside the concave bevels of the cart. You can fit both in there if you maneuver the arms and legs just right, but there is NO way those monkeys make it down the slide     while remaining in their cart.  That being said, the flying monkeys seemed to be entertaining to my son.

And, as if just to prove the stereotypes of little boys, here is the picture of the playset right before bedtime, but not before there was a visit from the Hulk.

One Zillion Games was provided with a review copy of the Tall Stacker Mighty Monkey Playset. The fact that a sample copy was provided, in no way influences our opinions of the product.
