U-Build Battleship

Publisher: Hasbro

Players: 2

Ages: 7+

U-Build Battleship Rules: N/A

I loved Battleship as a kid, so I was excited to hear something new Battleship-related was coming along (I am even a little excited for the Battleship feature film starring Rhianna set for release in May of 2012).

Much like U-Build Sorry! updated itself with U-Build blockification AND updated game-play, U-Build Battleship does the same. Not only are the actual battleship and other ships made of U-Build blocks, but the weaponry systems have all gotten an upgrade.

Did the classic version of calling one grid location at a time wear on your patience? Good news! The U-Build Battleship weapons fire multiple shots.  The bigger the sea craft, the more times it can fire. Unfortunately, this goes both ways; every time a ship gets hit, it loses one of its shots.

I think this really helped my kids (and, honestly, me) not to get discouraged by a long string of misses. The  most turns any of us went without hitting something was three. There is even a game variation that involves getting to choose how many weapons each boat gets.

OZG Kids' score: 8 points - My son would have like more things to build.

OZG Grown-ups' score: 7 points - Our main issue was with the materials; the ships simply lay in their grid positions.  There is nothing to click and lock them into place (something we noticed every time we accidentally knocked one out of place). I really think that the game would have benefited by being made completely out of U-Build materials instead of a combination of cardboard and U-Build block.  This would help with both playability and durability.

One Zillion Games was provided with a review copy of U-Build Battleship. The fact that a sample copy was provided, in no way influences our opinions of the game.
